Directors Commentary:
Project: : Priceless
For me it was important to convey the frustration of the piece. I felt like se7en was more than just a man reciting a poem, but more a symbol of knowledge that the audience had never encountered before. So I decided to make him a personification of sorts. That way younger generations would be interested in hearing this impactful message. I also wanted people to see the ''dark side'' of knowledge, a more in your face way to the truth I guess you can say. So that's why I had nobody give him any kind of contact, even in the walk through scene so that you could see his frustration as well as hear it in his words. Another thing that se7en and I wanted people to realize is that this disease could not be generalized or stereotyped for a certain person, anyone could be infected and that everyone was affected by the deadly disease. I actually pulled people from off the street for the walk by scene just to make sure that we had a good array of race and gender so that the video could connect to everyone . I picked to shoot against the graffiti wall because it fit the piece perfectly, it was aggressive yet beautiful and demanded for you to pay attention. In the final scene to make sure that the audience could visually interpret his ''connection'' to the piece we decided to get the HIV ribbon airbrushed on the back of his jacket so that when he turned around he would blend in with the wall as if he was just apart of the environment around him. |
